Acupuncture for Children

Acupuncture is suitable for children of all ages, from newborn through to teenage years.

Julia practices a very gentle system of paediatric acupuncture that originates from Japan called Shonishin.  Rather than using needles on young children, Julia uses a gentle tapping, pressing or brushing technique on the surface of the skin to stimulate the body’s energy system and restore health.  Children often respond very quickly to treatment because they are sensitive to change and usually have a lot of energy.

Children tend to enjoy the sessions because they are not uncomfortable or frightening.  Older children can be treated using gentle needle acupuncture or continue to be treated with Shonishin depending upon their maturity and comfort levels.  A simplified version of Shonishin can be taught to parents and administered at home on a daily basis if the child’s symptoms persist and need more intensive treatment.
